Independent and doctor-owned since 2012

Eye care the way it ought to work: the same doctor every visit, honest answers, and never a clock on your questions.

You’ll find three optometrists here, thirty-minute exams that don’t feel rushed, and a front desk that walks you through your insurance in plain dollars before you owe a dime. That’s how we’ve cared for families on Chattanooga’s east side since 2012.

What we do

It’s all handled right here

From your child’s first exam to the contact lenses nobody else could fit, it’s all handled right here, by doctors who’ll still be here for you next year.

  • Comprehensive eye exams

A full thirty minutes with your doctor, with Optomap retinal imaging included, never a rushed pass through a script mill.

  • Contact lens exams and fittings

Dailies, torics, and multifocals, fit so they’re comfortable all day. You’ll go home with trial lenses to try, never just a guess.

  • Specialty contact lenses

Keratoconus, sclerals, and post-surgical fits are Dr. Natarajan’s specialty, and folks drive in from three states to see her.

  • Children’s eye exams

First exams, school-age checkups, and a myopia management program that can slow nearsightedness down.

  • Medical eyecare

Dry eye that drops stopped fixing, glaucoma monitoring, diabetic eye exams, and a red eye we’ll usually see the same day.

  • The optical shop

Around 600 frames picked by people who fit faces all day, with free adjustments and repairs for as long as you own them.

How an exam works here

Thirty minutes, start to finish, with an actual doctor

  1. 1

    Before you arrive

We check your vision and medical benefits ahead of time and tell you what your visit will cost, so there are no surprises at checkout.

  2. 2

    In the chair

We start with pre-testing and Optomap retinal imaging, and then you get a full thirty minutes with your doctor. Bring your questions, because that’s exactly what the time is for.

  3. 3

    On your way out

You’ll leave with a clear plan in plain English: your prescription, anything we’re keeping an eye on, and when to come back. If you’d like a glasses fitting with Gina she’s right there, and if you’d rather not, there’s zero pressure.

Meet the doctors

Three doctors, one standard

You’ll see the same doctor every visit, someone who remembers your eyes, your history, and probably your dog’s name before yours.

  • Founder

    Dr. Maya Sorensen, OD

Dry eye, glaucoma monitoring, and diabetic eye care.

  • Dr. Cole Whitaker, OD

Kids’ exams and the myopia management program.

  • Dr. Priya Natarajan, OD

Specialty and hard-to-fit contact lenses, in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays.

More about the practice

The optical shop

The frame wall is the fun part

We keep around 600 frames, chosen by our own opticians rather than a corporate planogram. You’ll find independent lines you won’t see at the mall, sturdy kids’ frames that survive recess, and honest opinions about what actually suits your face. Every pair we sell gets free adjustments and minor repairs for as long as you own it.

Free adjustments and minor repairs for the life of the frame.

Questions

The three questions our phones get most

Do you take my insurance?
We’re in network with VSP and EyeMed and bill most major medical plans. Not sure what you’ve got? Give us a call with your insurance card handy and we’ll tell you exactly what your visit will cost before you ever book.
What does an exam cost without insurance?
An exam is $132 with retinal imaging included, no add-on for it. Contact lens evaluations are extra and priced flat, starting at $79, and every one of our self-pay prices is published right on the Insurance & FAQ page.
Can you see me today for a red eye?
Usually, yes. Call the front desk right when we open at 8:30 and we’ll work you in that day. If you’re seeing sudden flashes, new floaters, or a curtain over your vision, don’t wait on us, that one’s a call-right-now.
